Unidentified Body Recovered From Railway Track In Matigara; Police Suspect Train Hit

Siliguri, February 6, 2026 – The discovery of a young woman’s blood-stained body near the New Chamta railway bridge in Matigara caused significant local tension on Thursday night. The body was found on the tracks around 8:00 PM, prompting an immediate response from the Matigara Police and the Government Railway Police (GRP).

Sub-Inspector Durojit Das noted that authorities were alerted at 8:30 PM and are currently investigating whether the death was caused by a train collision. No identification documents were found at the scene, and police are now reviewing CCTV footage from nearby areas, including a prominent shopping mall, to identify the victim. The body has been sent for a post-mortem to determine the exact cause of death as investigations continue.
