Record ₹14,205 Crore Railway Budget for West Bengal: Highest Ever Allocation, Announces Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw

New Delhi, February 11, 2026 – Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw has announced that the Centre has allocated a record ₹14,205 crore for railway projects in West Bengal in the Union Budget 2026-27, marking the highest ever funding for the state.

This substantial allocation is more than three times the average annual budget provided during the 2009-14 period under the previous UPA government. Minister Vaishnaw emphasized the Centre’s strong commitment to developing rail infrastructure in West Bengal, with ongoing projects worth approximately ₹92,000 crore currently underway across the state.

The enhanced funding aims to accelerate key initiatives, including new lines, station upgrades, safety enhancements, and improved connectivity—vital for a strategically important region like the Siliguri corridor and Dooars area.

Vaishnaw urged the West Bengal government to extend full cooperation, particularly in land acquisition and project clearances, to ensure timely execution and maximize benefits for passengers and the economy.

This record allocation reflects the government’s focus on balanced regional development and modernizing Indian Railways, bringing faster, safer, and more efficient services to the people of West Bengal.
