Massive Blow to Insurgency: 130 Maoists Surrender and Join Mainstream in Telangana

Hyderabad, March 7, 2026 — In a massive breakthrough for internal security and anti-insurgency operations, 130 Maoists officially surrendered before Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy in Hyderabad on Saturday. The mass surrender marks one of the most significant blows to left-wing extremism in the region in recent years.

Major Cache of Weapons Handed Over

The surrendering cadres laid down a substantial arsenal during the process. According to official reports, the group turned over 124 rifles along with various other arms and ammunition.

The Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) addressed the media following the event, terming the mass surrender a “major success” for both the state government and the police department. The DGP emphasized that the continuous intelligence-based operations and community outreach programs conducted by the state police played a pivotal role in convincing the cadres to abandon the armed struggle.

Return to the Mainstream

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy personally welcomed the surrendered individuals back into mainstream society. The state government has assured them that they will receive comprehensive support under Telangana’s official rehabilitation and resettlement policy for surrendered Maoists. This includes financial assistance, housing, and vocational training designed to help them secure sustainable livelihoods.

The unprecedented scale of this surrender is expected to severely weaken the Maoist operational footprint and network in the region. Security analysts note that it reflects a growing disillusionment among the lower and middle-rung cadres with the protracted armed conflict, driving a shift toward peaceful integration into society.
