Assam Police Camp Targeted with Rocket Grenades; Massive Search Ops Underway

Terror in Tinsukia: Several Assam Police Commandos Injured in Suspected ULFA(I) RPG Attack

Tinsukia, March 22, 2026 — In a major security escalation, several Assam Police commandos were injured during a fierce militant attack in Assam’s Tinsukia district early Sunday morning. Authorities suspect the outlawed ULFA(I) militant outfit is behind the brazen ambush.

The targeted strike occurred at approximately 2:00 AM at a police commando camp situated in the Jagun area of the district.

RPGs and Heavy Gunfire

According to preliminary official reports, the attackers launched at least five Rocket-Propelled Grenades (RPGs) directly at the commando camp while the personnel were resting. The explosive assault was immediately followed by a heavy, intense exchange of gunfire between the surviving commandos and the militants.

The crossfire lasted for nearly 20 minutes before the attackers managed to retreat under the cover of darkness.

Search Operations Launched

The injured police commandos were swiftly evacuated and rushed to a nearby medical facility for emergency treatment. As of Sunday morning, the exact number of casualties and the severity of their conditions have not been officially confirmed by police headquarters.

In the immediate aftermath of the ambush, heavy security reinforcements were deployed to the region. Joint security forces have completely cordoned off the Jagun area and launched massive, coordinated search and combing operations in the surrounding forests to track down the fleeing attackers.

(This is a developing story. Further updates will be provided as more details emerge from the search operations.)
