San Francisco, April 13, 2026 — In a shocking escalation of violence directed at Silicon Valley’s top artificial intelligence executive, the San Francisco home of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman was targeted in a drive-by shooting early Sunday morning. The terrifying incident occurred less than 48 hours after a separate suspect hurled a Molotov cocktail at the exact same property.
The San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) has swiftly arrested two suspects in connection with the gunfire. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and it remains unclear whether Altman or his family were inside the residence at the time of the shooting.
The Drive-By Shooting
According to local reports and police records, the shooting unfolded at approximately 1:40 a.m. PT on Sunday, April 12.
Surveillance footage and statements from the compound’s private security detail revealed that a Honda sedan carrying two individuals drove slowly past Altman’s multi-million-dollar estate in the Russian Hill neighborhood. The vehicle reportedly passed the house once, only to circle back minutes later.
During the second pass, the passenger extended an arm out of the window and fired a shot toward the Lombard Street side of the property. Security personnel immediately reported hearing the gunshot and alerted the authorities.
Suspects Arrested and Charged
Following a rapid investigation, SFPD officers successfully identified and apprehended the two individuals in the vehicle. The suspects have been identified as 25-year-old Amanda Tom and 23-year-old Muhamad Hussein.
Both individuals were booked into the San Francisco County Jail and have been formally charged with the negligent discharge of a firearm under California Penal Code 246.3.
San Francisco Police Chief Derrick Lew addressed the media, praising his officers for their quick response. “The SFPD takes crimes involving guns extremely seriously, and anyone committing acts like these will be arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” Chief Lew stated. “I want to thank our officers whose swift actions identified these suspects, took them into custody, and got dangerous weapons off our streets.”

Sunday’s shooting marks the second violent attack on Altman’s property in a single weekend.
Just two days prior, on Friday morning, 20-year-old Daniel Alejandro Moreno-Gama allegedly threw a Molotov cocktail at the exterior metal gate of the same residence. The fire self-extinguished, and Moreno-Gama was arrested roughly an hour later outside OpenAI’s headquarters in Mission Bay after making violent threats to burn down the corporate facility.
The consecutive attacks underscore growing concerns regarding the personal safety of high-profile technology leaders. As public anxiety mounts over the rapid advancement, economic impact, and military applications of artificial intelligence, executives like Altman are increasingly finding themselves in the crosshairs of extreme backlash.
OpenAI has not yet issued an official statement regarding Sunday’s shooting, though the company previously confirmed it is fully cooperating with law enforcement and has heightened security protocols around its personnel and offices.
