Double Win for ‘Dhurandhar 2’: Madras High Court Blocks Piracy and Fake Merchandise Ahead of Grand Release

Madras High Court Bans Unauthorized Dhurandhar 2 Merchandise on Amazon, Flipkart

Tarai 24 Entertainment Desk, March 18, 2026 — Just a day before its highly anticipated global theatrical release, the makers of Dhurandhar: The Revenge (Dhurandhar 2) have secured a massive double legal victory. The Madras High Court on Wednesday passed strict ad interim injunctions to protect the Ranveer Singh-starrer from both online piracy and the unauthorized sale of fake merchandise across major e-commerce platforms.

Ruling on joint commercial suits filed by producers Reliance Industries Limited (via Jio Studios) and B62 Studios Private Limited, Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy granted comprehensive protection to safeguard the film’s copyright and commercial interests.

Here is a breakdown of the two major directives issued by the High Court:

1. Crackdown on Fake Merchandise (Amazon, Flipkart, Meta)

In a sweeping John Doe suit aimed at stopping the illegal profiteering off the movie’s brand, the High Court prohibited several prominent e-commerce and social media giants from permitting the sale of unauthorized Dhurandhar goods.

The injunction explicitly restrains platforms like Amazon Seller Services, Flipkart, Facebook, and Instagram (Meta), along with custom apparel sites like Red Bubble, Etsy, and various independent Indian vendors, from hosting listings that commercially exploit the film. Sellers are barred from using the movie’s title, character depictions, posters, visual imagery, or famous dialogues on t-shirts, mugs, and other merchandise.

Taking it a step further, Justice Ramamoorthy directed Amazon, Flipkart, and Meta to actively disclose the Know Your Customer (KYC) details of any rogue traders found selling pirated merchandise on their platforms.

2. Restraining Illegal Broadcasts and Streaming

In a parallel anti-piracy order, the Court granted an ad interim injunction restraining Internet Service Providers (ISPs), including BSNL, and various local cable TV operators from unlawfully broadcasting or transmitting Dhurandhar 2.

The producers approached the court expressing fears that rogue websites and cable operators would leak the film immediately upon its March 19 release, causing immense and irreparable financial injury. Recognizing the threat, the Court directed ISPs to proactively block websites and webpages that attempt to transmit pirated versions of the spy thriller.

To balance the legal scales, the Court granted this injunction on the condition that Reliance indemnifies the respondents against any potential business loss arising from the blocking orders.

Both interim injunctions will remain in effect until April 15, 2026, when the court will next take up the matters for hearing.
