Govt Sanctions Over 3.87 Crore Houses Under PMAY-G; 2.95 Crore Completed So Far

New Delhi, February 7, 2026 – The Central government has sanctioned more than 3 crore 87 lakh houses to states and Union Territories under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G), aimed at providing pucca homes to rural poor.

In a written reply to the Rajya Sabha on Thursday, Minister of State for Rural Development Dr Chander Shekhar Pemmasani revealed that out of these, over 2 crore 95 lakh houses have been completed as of February 2, 2026.

The minister further noted that during the last five years, more than 2 crore 10 lakh 66 thousand houses have been sanctioned under the scheme.

Launched in 2016, PMAY-G targets constructing affordable housing for rural households lacking proper shelter, with a focus on women empowerment through joint or sole ownership. The scheme’s second phase emphasizes timely completion and integration with other rural development programs.

This update highlights the government’s push towards “Housing for All” by 2024, though extensions have been made to meet remaining targets. Officials stress that states/UTs have flexibility in house design while adhering to central guidelines.
