New Delhi, February 5, 2026 – The Indian Navy has delivered 10 Bailey Bridges to Colombo, Sri Lanka, to support the country’s reconstruction following the devastation caused by Cyclone Ditwah.
The modular bridges arrived aboard the Indian Naval Ship Gharial on February 4, 2026. They are expected to play a key role in restoring damaged road networks, improving civilian movement, and aiding relief and rehabilitation in affected areas.
This humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) mission forms part of India’s USD 450 million Special Economic Package, as announced by External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar. It also aligns with regional cooperation under Operation Sagar Bandhu.
The initiative underscores the Indian Navy’s position as a first responder and reliable partner in the Indian Ocean Region, demonstrating India’s commitment to assisting maritime neighbors during crises.
