PM Modi Holds Bilateral Talks with Malaysian Counterpart Anwar Ibrahim; Multiple MoUs Signed to Boost Ties

Kuala Lumpur, February 8, 2026 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi held comprehensive bilateral talks with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim today, focusing on advancing the India-Malaysia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership across key sectors.

The discussions, which included both one-on-one sessions and delegation-level meetings, took place following a ceremonial welcome for PM Modi at Anwar Ibrahim’s office. The leaders reviewed progress in priority areas such as trade, investment, defence, security, semiconductors, digital technologies, and renewable energy.

Several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were exchanged during the talks, covering cooperation in disaster management, audiovisual co-production, combating and preventing corruption, semiconductor development, and security. These agreements aim to deepen collaboration in emerging domains and strengthen economic linkages.

PM Modi emphasized the special bond between India and Malaysia as maritime neighbors, highlighting strong people-to-people links and cultural connections. He described the guiding principle of the relationship as “IMPACT,” standing for India-Malaysia Partnership for Advancing Collective Transformation.

This visit, Modi’s third to Malaysia and the first since the elevation of ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in August 2024, underscores India’s Act East Policy with Malaysia as a key ASEAN partner. The two-day trip also featured a community event “Selamat Datang Modi Ji” yesterday, attended by thousands from the Indian diaspora.

The outcomes are expected to inject fresh momentum into bilateral relations, fostering mutual growth amid shared interests in the Indo-Pacific region.
