Kalimpong, February 5, 2026 – The Central Government has sanctioned 27 rural road projects under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) for Kalimpong district in West Bengal, aiming to improve connectivity in remote and hilly areas.
According to an official document dated January 28, 2026, from the PMGSY office, the proposals were submitted by Darjeeling MP Shri Raju Bista and have been approved for inclusion in the Core Network. The roads, totaling 27 in number, will be executed by Project Implementation Units (PIUs) upon receipt of funds for the financial year 2025-26.
The prioritized projects include key links such as Ratnam to Chuba Changay (priority 1), Gandhigram to Kalimpong Khasmahal (priority 2), and Narayani Pouri House to Paiyong Khola (priority 4). Other notable roads are from Upper Kafley Gaon to Nepal Gaon (priority 4), Jhandi Eco Hut Homestay to Jhandi Rai Gaon (priority 13), and Tibetan Villa Samalbong to Tibetan North (priority 37). All proposals focus on enhancing access in underserved villages, with priorities assigned based on the Central Network Planning Level (CNPL) ranking.
This development is expected to boost rural infrastructure in Kalimpong, facilitating better access to markets, healthcare, and education for local communities. The PMGSY scheme, aimed at providing all-weather road connectivity to unconnected habitations, has been crucial for hilly regions like North Bengal.
