Darjeeling Receives ₹110 Crore Boost for 21 Rural Road Projects Under PMGSY

Darjeeling, February 5, 2026 – The Central Government has sanctioned 21 rural road projects under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) for Darjeeling district in West Bengal, focusing on bridging massive developmental gaps in rural and hilly areas.

According to the official announcement by Darjeeling MP Shri Raju Bista, these proposals have been approved for inclusion in the region’s Core Network. The projects in Darjeeling represent a significant portion of a larger regional initiative, with an earmarked investment of ₹110.04 crore specifically for the district to improve connectivity across the hills, Terai, and Dooars.

The sanctioned projects are designed to enhance infrastructure in underserved villages, providing all-weather access to remote habitations. By integrating these rural stretches into the central network, the initiative aims to facilitate smoother movement for residents, ensuring better access to markets, healthcare facilities, and educational institutions. These 21 roads are part of a broader 48-project package for the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) region, totaling an investment of over ₹206.99 crores.

MP Raju Bista emphasized that these projects are the result of close collaboration with the Ministry of Rural Development. This development is expected to be a cornerstone for economic growth in North Bengal, as the PMGSY scheme continues to be a vital lifeline for rural infrastructure in difficult terrains. The MP assured constituents that these efforts would fulfill long-standing aspirations for improved quality of life in the rural reaches of Darjeeling.
