New Delhi, February 5, 2026 – NTPC Limited has announced a target of 30 GW nuclear power capacity by 2047, contributing to the national goal of 100 GW.

The company is pursuing the target through two routes. Its joint venture with NPCIL — Anu Shakti Vidyut Nigam Limited (ASHVINI) — is developing the 4 × 700 MW Mahi Banswara Rajasthan Atomic Power Project. Criticality of the first unit is expected in FY 2032–33.

NTPC has also incorporated a wholly owned subsidiary, NTPC Parmanu Urja Nigam Limited (NPUNL), on 7 January 2025. An Expression of Interest has been issued to invite international partners for technology and collaboration.

The information was provided by Minister of State for Power Shripad Naik in a written reply to the Lok Sabha. India’s current nuclear capacity is approximately 7.48 GW.
