Mumbai, February 11, 2026 – A Mumbai civil court has granted filmmaker Karan Johar an interim injunction against popular YouTuber CarryMinati (Ajey Nagar) in a defamation case stemming from a parody roast video.
The order, issued on February 9-10, restrains CarryMinati, his manager Deepak Char, and associated entities from uploading, posting, or circulating any further “defamatory, vulgar, or abusive” content targeting Johar. The court also directed platforms like YouTube (Google) and Meta to remove the offending video and related material.
The controversy centers on CarryMinati’s recent video titled Coffee with Jalan, a spoof of Johar’s long-running chat show Koffee with Karan. Johar’s legal team argued that the content used vulgar language, made direct personal attacks, ridiculed him, and damaged his reputation while mocking Bollywood’s nepotism culture.
The judge noted a prima facie case of defamation, observing that the parody crossed into objectionable territory with abusive remarks. CarryMinati’s side reportedly stated the original video had already been taken down voluntarily.
This marks a rare instance of a high-profile Bollywood figure securing legal relief against online roast content. The case highlights growing tensions between creators’ freedom of expression in parody and protections against defamation.
Neither CarryMinati nor Johar has publicly commented on the ruling yet. The suit continues, with further hearings expected.
The interim order applies until the next court date, balancing celebrity privacy with digital content creation boundaries in India.
