Siliguri/ February 16, 2026 — It was a historic day for rail connectivity in North Bengal as Darjeeling MP Raju Bista flagged off two major train stoppages at Sevoke and Gulma railway stations, fulfilling long-standing demands of the region.

The celebrations began in the afternoon at Sevoke Railway Station, where the Sikkim Mahananda Express made its first official halt. This new stop directly connects residents of Kalimpong and Sikkim to Delhi. MP Bista highlighted that Sevoke is fast becoming a major developmental hub, with upcoming projects like the Sevoke-Rangpo rail line (set for 2027) and the Balason-Sevoke Elevated Corridor transforming the area.

Later in the day, the focus shifted to Gulma Station on the outskirts of Siliguri, where the MP flagged off the Vistadome Tourist Express. Addressing the gathering, Bista announced ambitious plans to upgrade Gulma into a key transit point, promising that six to ten national and regional trains would operate from here in the near future.

“The development of these stations is very close to my heart,” Bista said, congratulating the residents of Sevoke, Milan More, Sukna, and Champasari. He termed today’s events as “just the beginning” of a larger mission to bridge connectivity gaps across the Darjeeling and Dooars region.
