Siliguri Police Nab 28-Year-Old from East Sikkim with Gun and Live Ammunition

Siliguri, March 5, 2026 — In a successful operation aimed at curbing illegal arms circulation in the city, the Siliguri Police Commissionerate arrested a 28-year-old man from Sikkim and recovered an illegal firearm along with live ammunition on Wednesday.

The arrest was carried out by officers from the Pradhan Nagar Police Station, who acted swiftly on verified intelligence.

According to the official statement released by the Siliguri Police Commissionerate, a special plainclothes team from the Pradhan Nagar Police Station was mobilized on March 4 following a specific, confidential tip-off regarding the presence of an armed individual.

The team conducted a targeted raid near the bustling SNT (Sikkim Nationalised Transport) Bus Stand area, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Pradhan Nagar Police Station.

During the raid, police intercepted the suspect, identified as Mukesh Biswakarma, who also goes by the alias Anish. The 28-year-old is a resident of Nandok, located in the Ranipool police station area of East Sikkim district.

Upon conducting a physical search of the suspect, officers recovered one small firearm and one live round of ammunition concealed in his possession.

When questioned by the authorities, Biswakarma failed to produce any valid arms license or legal documentation justifying his possession of the weapon. Consequently, he was immediately taken into custody and the weapon was officially seized.

A specific case under the Arms Act has been registered against the accused at the Pradhan Nagar Police Station. Investigating officers are now interrogating the suspect to determine the source of the illegal firearm and to ascertain his motive for carrying a loaded weapon into a crowded transit hub in Siliguri.
