Jalpaiguri District Police Refund Over ₹1.79 Lakh to Cyber Scam Victims; 20 Stolen Phones Traced
Jalpaiguri, March 5, 2026 — In a major relief for cyber crime victims across the Dooars region, the Jalpaiguri District Police have successfully recovered and refunded nearly ₹1.8 lakh lost to online financial frauds. Additionally, authorities traced and returned 20 missing or stolen mobile phones to their rightful owners during a coordinated handover on Thursday.
The successful recovery operations were spearheaded by the dedicated Cyber Cells of the Malbazar and Matelli Police Stations.
Malbazar Police Station Recoveries
The Cyber Cell operating under the Malbazar Police Station managed to retrieve a total of ₹1,46,500 connected to various online scam cases. After completing proper legal verification processes, the police distributed the recovered funds directly to the defrauded victims.
The detailed breakdown of the financial recovery at Malbazar PS includes:
Susmita Oraon: Defrauded of ₹84,497; Police successfully recovered ₹79,500.
Udayan Thapa: Defrauded of ₹45,000; Police successfully recovered ₹37,000.
Arman Arshad: Defrauded of ₹20,000; Police successfully recovered the full ₹20,000.
Sariful Islam: Defrauded of ₹10,000; Police successfully recovered the full ₹10,000.
Alongside the financial refunds, the Malbazar police also handed over 10 recovered missing mobile phones to their respective owners.
Matelli Police Station Recoveries
Simultaneously, the Matelli Police Station’s Cyber Cell reported parallel success in tracing digital footprints and stolen goods. Authorities recovered and refunded an exact sum of ₹33,212.84 to victims involved in three separate online financial fraud cases.
Furthermore, the Matelli cyber team successfully tracked down another 10 lost mobile phones. These devices were formally handed over to the owners after due verification and the completion of necessary paperwork.
