Trains, Roads, and Land Rights: Inside PM Modi’s Massive ₹47,703 Crore Blueprint for Assam
Guwahati, March 13, 2026 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed in Guwahati on Friday to kick off a high-stakes, two-day visit to Assam. He was received by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who announced that the Prime Minister’s tour will herald a massive wave of infrastructure and welfare initiatives worth a staggering ₹47,703 crore across the state.
The packed itinerary covers multiple regions, including major project launches in Guwahati, Silchar, and Kokrajhar, focusing heavily on connectivity, railway infrastructure, and historic land rights.
Guwahati, Kokrajhar, and Silchar Agendas
State Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass noted that PM Modi, who has visited Assam more than 70 times, will lay foundation stones, perform Bhoomi Poojan, and dedicate projects worth over ₹4,570 crore specifically in the Kokrajhar region.
At around 5 PM on Friday in Guwahati, the Prime Minister will inaugurate projects worth approximately ₹19,480 crore. The momentum will continue on Saturday, March 14, when PM Modi travels to Silchar to dedicate further projects worth roughly ₹23,550 crore.
Major Road Infrastructure: Asom Mala 3.0
A cornerstone of the visit is the launch of the Asom Mala 3.0 project. Valued at over ₹3,200 crore, this massive road infrastructure initiative will see the construction of more than 900 kilometers of roads, designed to drastically improve inter-state connectivity and link rural roads to national highways.
Additionally, PM Modi will perform Bhoomi Poojan for six critical road projects in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) area. With an investment of ₹1,100 crore, the construction of four flyovers and two bridges aims to alleviate traffic congestion in Kokrajhar while boosting tourism, healthcare access, and rural mobility.
Railway Upgrades and Historic Land Rights
The Prime Minister’s visit will also deliver a significant upgrade to the region’s railway network. He will lay the foundation stone for a Periodic Overhauling (POH) Workshop at Bashbari in Kokrajhar to enhance railway maintenance and generate local employment.
Furthermore, PM Modi will flag off three new train services to connect Assam more seamlessly with the rest of India:
Kamakhya-Charlapalli Amrit Bharat Express (Connecting the North-East to Southern India)
Guwahati-New Jalpaiguri Express (Enhancing links with West Bengal)
Narangi-Agartala Express (Improving transit to Tripura)
In a highly anticipated welfare move, the Prime Minister will also distribute land pattas to tea garden workers in Guwahati. This historic milestone aims to provide the tea garden community with secure homestead land rights, unlocking better access to housing security, institutional credit, and long-term socio-economic mobility.
