Shocking: Youths Attack Constable After Bursting Firecrackers Outside Adharwadi Jail to Celebrate Bail

Thane, March 19, 2026 — What was supposed to be a celebration of a friend’s release from prison quickly turned into a criminal offense. Police in Maharashtra’s Thane district have arrested one man and launched a manhunt for two others after they allegedly burst firecrackers right outside the gates of a district jail and violently assaulted an on-duty police constable who tried to stop them.

The bizarre and dangerous incident took place during the intervening night of March 14 and 15 outside the Adharwadi District Jail in Kalyan.

A Dangerous Display

According to police officials, the prime accused, identified as Rohit Ganesh Jagdale, had just been released from the prison on bail. To celebrate his release, Jagdale and two of his associates—both men aged between 25 and 30—gathered directly outside the jail’s main gate and began bursting aerial firecrackers.

Authorities noted that this was a highly reckless act. The crackers were flying into the air in close proximity to the prison’s security perimeter, which includes a wired fence carrying a live 440-volt electric current.

Assault on a Public Servant

The commotion immediately alerted the prison guards. When Constable Amol Desale, who was stationed on duty at the main gate, intervened and ordered the men to stop bursting the crackers near the sensitive security zone, the trio became aggressive.

Instead of backing down, the youths turned violent. “The accused abused the constable, knocked him down, and obstructed him from performing his duty,” a police official confirmed based on the formal statement filed by Abhijit Sudam Koli, a senior officer at the district jail.

Legal Action Taken

Following the brazen attack, local police moved swiftly and re-arrested Rohit Ganesh Jagdale. A search operation is currently underway to track down his two absconding accomplices.

The Khadakpada police station has registered a formal FIR against the trio. They have been booked under severe sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including sections 132 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 270 (public nuisance), and 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means), along with relevant sections of the Maharashtra Police Act.
