Lucknow, March 20, 2026 — A devastating incident has sent shockwaves through the Niwa village in the Banthra police station area of Lucknow. In a suspected mass suicide pact, three members of a family allegedly consumed a highly toxic substance late Thursday night. The tragic event resulted in the deaths of the mother and her elder son, while the father is currently battling for his life in a critical condition at a local hospital.
The Gruesome Discovery
The incident came to light early Friday morning, around 4:00 AM, when the youngest son of the family, Kuldeep, woke up to find his father, Roopnarayan, vomiting violently. When Kuldeep rushed into the adjoining room to check on the rest of the family, he made a horrifying discovery. His 52-year-old mother, Tarawati, and his 30-year-old elder brother, Sandeep, were lying dead with foam frothing from their mouths.
A panicked Kuldeep immediately raised an alarm, calling his uncle and neighbors. Dial 112 was alerted, and the police team rushed all three victims to the hospital. While doctors declared Tarawati and Sandeep dead on arrival, Roopnarayan was admitted in a highly critical state.
The Mysterious “Mumbai” Notice
The family, described as having an ordinary financial background, earned their livelihood by running a small roadside dhaba and a paan stall. According to relatives, including Roopnarayan’s brother Jagat Chaurasia, the family did not appear to be under any severe financial debt or visible pressure. The youngest son noted that everything seemed normal the previous night when his father and brother returned from the shop and went to sleep.
However, the police investigation has uncovered deeply unsettling clues that have tangled the narrative.
The Suicide Note: Investigating officers recovered a suicide note directly from the pocket of the deceased son, Sandeep. The note explicitly stated, “Only we are responsible for our deaths,” though it did not detail the specific reasons driving them to the extreme step.
The Torn Document: Adding a layer of intense mystery to the case, police found a torn, five-page notice outside the family’s house. Strikingly, one of the pages bore the designation “Security Officer, Mumbai.”
Police Investigation Underway
The local police have sent the bodies of the mother and son for a post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact nature of the poison consumed. The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team has also been deployed to collect evidence from the scene.
According to ACP (Krishna Nagar) Rajneesh Verma, preliminary investigations strongly point toward a coordinated suicide via poisoning, as no external injury marks were found on any of the victims. However, the exact motive remains a mystery. Authorities are now meticulously probing all angles, particularly the significance of the torn notice and its potential connection to Mumbai, to unravel the events that drove a seemingly normal family to such a tragic end.
