Agra Road Horror: 73-Year-Old Grandfather Dies Returning from Granddaughter’s ‘Lagun’ Ceremony

Agra, April 16, 2026 — A devastating road accident on the Agra-Etawah State Highway early Thursday morning has transformed a family’s wedding preparations into profound grief. A 73-year-old man was killed and 23 of his relatives were injured when the Max loader vehicle they were traveling in crashed violently into a dumper truck.

The deceased, identified as Baleshwar, a resident of Vikrampur village in the Bah area, was the grandfather of the bride-to-be. The family was returning home after successfully completing the ‘Lagun’ (a major pre-wedding ritual) for his granddaughter, Mohini.

The Early Morning Crash

According to eyewitness accounts and local police, the horrific collision took place around 4:00 AM near Pachhayangaon, falling under the Bah police station limits.

The family and relatives had traveled in two vehicles to Surgaon in the neighboring Bhind district on Wednesday evening for the ritual. On their return journey, a dumper truck driver was reportedly reversing his heavy vehicle on the state highway. The Max loader, which was carrying over 25 passengers, failed to spot the backing dumper in the darkness and rammed directly into its rear.

The impact was so severe that the Max loader was completely mangled. Occupants of the second family vehicle, traveling just behind them, immediately rushed to pull the trapped and bleeding victims from the wreckage.

Casualties and Rescue Operations

Tragically, Baleshwar sustained fatal injuries and died on the spot. Upon receiving information about the accident, the Pachhayangaon police quickly arrived at the scene. With the assistance of relatives and local villagers, authorities dispatched the 23 injured passengers to various hospitals across Udi, Etawah, Bah, and Agra for urgent medical care.

Attending doctors have confirmed that eight of the injured passengers are currently in critical condition. The Bah police have sent the deceased’s body for a post-mortem examination and initiated a formal investigation into the crash to determine liability.

A Village in Shock

The tragedy has sent shockwaves through Vikrampur village, plunging the entire community into deep mourning. The atmosphere of celebration has vanished entirely, as Mohini’s wedding was scheduled to take place just five days later, on April 21.

Instead of witnessing his granddaughter’s bridal departure, the family had to lift Baleshwar’s bier on Thursday evening after the post-mortem. Hundreds of people from surrounding areas gathered to pay their final respects, while his grieving wife, Kamlesh, and the rest of the family remained completely inconsolable over the sudden loss.
