Indo-Russian Cultural Evening ‘Global Dance Overture’ Set for Today at New Delhi’s Kamani Theatre

Kamani Theatre to Host ‘Global Dance Overture’ Featuring Kostroma Russian National Ballet

New Delhi, March 3, 2026 — Celebrating the enduring strategic partnership between India and the Russian Federation, the internationally acclaimed Kostroma Russian National Ballet is set to present the cultural and educational project “Global Dance Overture” today at New Delhi’s Kamani Theatre.

The cultural evening is supported by the Ministry of Culture (Government of India) through the Sangeet Natak Akademi, in collaboration with the Russian Embassy in India, the Russian Ministry of Culture, and the Presidential Foundation for Cultural Initiatives.

Key Dignitaries and Inauguration

The event will be officially inaugurated by Shri Vivek Agarwal, Secretary, Ministry of Culture, who will attend as the Chief Guest.

Other prominent dignitaries scheduled to grace the occasion include H.E. Denis Evgenievich Alipov, the Russian Ambassador to India; Dr. Sandhya Purecha, Chairperson of the Sangeet Natak Akademi; and Mrs. Elena Tsarenko, Director of the Kostroma Russian National Ballet.

The Performances: A Blend of Two Nations

As the centerpiece of the cultural component, the Kostroma Russian National Ballet will present the “Russian National Dance Show.” Created by Yuri Tsarenko, Chief Choreographer and Honoured Artist of the Russian Federation, the show is billed as Russia’s largest historical choreographic performance.

Through authentic choreography and vibrant costumes, the performance aims to showcase the historical and national diversity of Russia, featuring dance traditions from the Caucasus, Buryatia, Siberia, the Far North, and Central Russia. The internationally recognized ballet has previously performed for over seven million spectators across 50 countries.

In a special collaborative highlight, Indian dancers will take the stage to present “Jayati Jaya Mama Bharatam.” This curated choreographic composition serves as a tribute to India’s pluralistic cultural identity, integrating selected folk traditions from across the country into a unified artistic narrative.

Educational Workshops and Flash Mob

The main performance today follows an educational exchange that took place yesterday. On March 2, an educational workshop under the Global Dance Overture initiative was conducted at Meghdoot Theatre-I, Rabindra Bhawan.

The restricted-participation program featured dance demonstrations and cross-cultural workshops focusing on both Russian and Indian dance traditions. The sessions concluded with a collaborative “Round Dance of Friendship” flash mob, designed to foster direct artistic exchange and international understanding among young dancers and choreographers from both nations.
