Total Surveillance at NDLS: Railway Minister Announces AI Cameras and Strict Vendor IDs

New Delhi, April 5, 2026 — Commuting through the capital’s busiest transit hub is set to become significantly safer and more organized. Union Minister of Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw has announced a sweeping modernization and security overhaul for the New Delhi Railway Station (NDLS), heavily emphasizing artificial intelligence and passenger convenience.

Taking to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the Railway Minister outlined a four-point upgrade plan designed to transform the daily operations and security grid of the station.

1,500 AI Cameras and Strict Identification

To combat overcrowding issues and ensure absolute safety, the station will soon be under constant, high-tech surveillance. Vaishnaw announced that approximately 1,500 AI-powered cameras will be installed across NDLS to monitor every corner of the premises in real time.

Additionally, the Ministry is cracking down on unauthorized personnel operating on the platforms. To guarantee passenger safety and establish clear accountability, every official railway employee and authorized vendor at the station will be issued mandatory ID cards and specific uniforms or jackets. This move is expected to quickly weed out illegal hawkers and unauthorized agents who frequently harass passengers.

Bharat Taxi Integration and Better Navigation

Addressing the notorious traffic bottlenecks and taxi-booking chaos outside the station, the Railway Minister revealed that ‘Bharat Taxi‘ will be officially integrated with the New Delhi Railway Station. This integration is aimed at streamlining the booking process, ensuring fair pricing, and providing a safer, more reliable last-mile connectivity option for arriving travelers.

Finally, to resolve the confusion often faced by passengers navigating the massive, multi-platform station, the Ministry will be installing brand-new, modern signages across the entire facility. These upgraded navigational aids will be strategically placed to ensure that travelers can easily locate platforms, exits, and essential amenities without hassle.
