Guwahati, February 16, 2026 — The Congress party is set to shift into election mode in Assam as General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra arrives in Guwahati on February 18 for a crucial two-day visit. With the Assam Assembly Elections just months away, her tour is viewed as a significant effort to “reset” the party’s strategy and energize the cadre against the ruling BJP-led alliance.

According to Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) sources, Priyanka Gandhi’s itinerary is packed with high-level internal meetings. Her primary agenda is to review the party’s organizational preparedness at the grassroots level. She is scheduled to hold extensive discussions with:

  • State executive members and senior APCC leaders.

  • District Congress Committee presidents.

  • Heads of various frontal organizations (Youth Congress, NSUI, Mahila Congress).

The meetings aim to iron out internal differences, finalize a cohesive campaign narrative, and establish a robust booth-management strategy—an area where the party has sought improvement in previous elections.

Political analysts view this visit as a potential turning point for the Congress in the state. Following the 2021 defeat and mixed results in subsequent by-polls, the party is looking to present a fresh, aggressive face to the electorate.

Insiders suggest that Priyanka Gandhi will likely focus on hyper-local issues, including unemployment, tea garden worker wages, and the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), to connect with voters. The discussions are also expected to touch upon potential alliances and seat-sharing formulas to consolidate the anti-incumbency vote.

Beyond strategy, the visit is designed to be a morale booster. By engaging directly with ground-level workers, the Congress High Command intends to send a message of seriousness and unity. “Her presence will galvanize the workers who have been fighting on the ground. It signals that Assam is a priority state for the central leadership,” a senior APCC leader stated.

As the political heat rises in the Northeast, all eyes will be on Guwahati this week to see if Priyanka Gandhi’s intervention can provide the momentum the Congress needs to mount a formidable challenge in the 2026 polls.
