Fake IPS Officer Arrested in Aurangabad After Demanding ₹1.20 Lakh from Shopkeeper

Fake IPS Caught in Bihar: UP Man Arrested with Fake NIA and CIA IDs in Daudnagar

Aurangabad, April 3, 2026 — The Daudnagar police in Bihar’s Aurangabad district have busted an extortion racket with the arrest of a 53-year-old conman who was duping locals by posing as a senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer. The accused, identified as Rajesh Shukla, a resident of Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh, was caught red-handed while attempting to extort over a lakh rupees from a local businessman.

The Extortion Plot at ‘Aditya Saree Mahal’

The massive fraud came to light when Rakesh Kumar, a resident of Chhattar Darwaza and owner of “Aditya Saree Mahal” in the local rice market, approached the authorities. He informed the police that a man claiming to be an IPS officer was continuously threatening him and demanding an extortion sum of ₹1.20 lakh.

Terrified by the constant intimidation and the man’s authoritative disguise, Kumar confessed to the police that he had already transferred ₹47,000 online to the accused’s account out of sheer fear.

Police Trap and Arrest

Acting swiftly on the intelligence, the District Superintendent of Police (SP) immediately formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by Daudnagar Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Ashok Kumar Das.

The police team raided the location and apprehended Rajesh Shukla on the spot. Upon verification, his claims of being an IPS officer completely unraveled, exposing a sophisticated, long-running scam designed to intimidate and extort innocent citizens.

Fake NIA IDs, Khaki Caps, and Gold Chains

A search of the accused revealed a shocking stash of forged documents and props used to maintain his elaborate charade. Police recovered:

  • Four fake IPS identity cards

  • Forged ID cards bearing the names of the NIA (National Investigation Agency) and the CIA

  • A custom T-shirt with the accused’s name printed on the front and “NIA” on the back

  • Two khaki police caps

  • An official police informer identity card

  • An ID card from a political party and a fake appointment letter from an International Human Rights organization

Authorities also noted that the 53-year-old fraudster was flaunting heavy gold chains worth lakhs of rupees around his neck at the time of his arrest, presumably purchased from his illicit extortion earnings.

Station House Officer (SHO) Vikas Kumar confirmed that a formal First Information Report (FIR) has been registered at the Daudnagar police station against Shukla. On Friday evening, the fake IPS officer was presented before the court and subsequently remanded to judicial custody. The police are now conducting further investigations to identify other potential victims who may have been targeted by Shukla across Bihar and UP.
