Patna DM’s Crackdown: Patliputra Terminal Clears Encroachments for Massive Upgrade

Patna DM Orders Immediate Removal of Encroachments at Patliputra Bus Terminal

Patna, April 5, 2026 — In a major move to decongest traffic and improve passenger amenities, Patna District Magistrate Thiyagarajan S. M. has issued strict directives for a comprehensive upgrade of the Patliputra Bus Terminal. During an executive committee meeting held on Saturday, the DM ordered the immediate clearing of all encroachments between the terminal and Zero Mile.

Taking a firm stance against terminal congestion, the DM has given the district transport officer a one-week ultimatum to remove 28 abandoned vehicles currently occupying valuable space on the bus terminal premises.

Multi-Departmental Crackdown and New Infrastructure

To execute the massive infrastructural overhaul, a specialized multi-departmental team led by the Superintendent of Police (Traffic) has been formed. This team is tasked with inspecting nearby roads and coordinating directly with Patna Metro, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), and road construction officials to strictly prevent the dumping of construction debris in the vicinity.

The administration is also looking to expand the terminal’s footprint. The district land acquisition officer has been directed to expedite the acquisition of an additional five acres of land, which will be utilized to develop new passenger infrastructure. Furthermore, the DM confirmed he will coordinate with Buidco and NHAI to ensure the speedy completion of pending drainage and construction projects near Bairiya and Pahadi.

Better Amenities for Passengers

A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to enhancing the commuter experience. The secretary of the terminal committee has been instructed to invite banks and private vendors to set up ATMs, restaurants, and hotels on the campus.

To ensure transparency and convenience, authorities must maintain adequate display boards, functioning inquiry counters, and prominently displayed passenger fare lists. An outsourcing agency, along with the Patna Municipal Corporation, has been tasked with regular monitoring of cleaning, waste disposal, and fogging operations.

Strict Action Against Unauthorized Operators

A designated task force, led by the sub-divisional officer, has been empowered to penalize unauthorized bus operators and crack down on illegal parking at Masaurhi Mor and Zero Mile.

To maintain the momentum of these upgrades, a management sub-committee has been scheduled to meet twice a month to continuously review passenger facilities. Additional instructions were also issued to upgrade the terminal’s security grid with enhanced CCTV surveillance to keep a check on anti-social elements.
