New Delhi, April 19, 2026 — In a shocking case of deceit driven by gambling addiction, the Delhi Police arrested a plywood businessman’s son and three of his associates for staging a fake armed robbery of ₹17 lakh in the North Rohini area. The accused mastermind orchestrated the entire drama to embezzle his own family’s money and clear his massive online betting debts.

The police have successfully recovered the entire amount and arrested four individuals: the mastermind Abhishek, along with his associates Anuj, Bharat, and Ajay.

A Fabricated Tale of Loot

The incident came to light on Friday when Abhishek approached the North Rohini police station in a panicked state, claiming he had been robbed. According to his initial complaint, he and his wife were carrying ₹17 lakh in cash to repay a family loan when they were intercepted and looted by unknown miscreants.

Given the substantial amount involved, the police immediately swung into action. However, as the investigating teams began scanning CCTV footage from the alleged crime scene and analyzing technical surveillance data, glaring inconsistencies in Abhishek’s statement emerged.

The Online Betting Debt Motive

Under sustained interrogation, Abhishek’s fabricated story quickly unraveled, and he confessed to masterminding the plot.

During the investigation, it was revealed that Abhishek had recently lost a staggering ₹6 lakh through online betting platforms and desperately owed the money to his associate, Anuj.

Coincidentally, Abhishek’s family, who runs a successful plywood business, had previously borrowed ₹17 lakh from a man named Sumit Tayal. On the day of the incident, the family had entrusted Abhishek with the cash, instructing him to go and clear the loan with Tayal.

Seeing this as an opportunity to wipe out his betting debts, Abhishek conspired with Anuj, Bharat, and Ajay to stage a fake robbery on his way to Tayal’s location.

Simultaneous Success in Madhu Vihar Burglary Case

In a separate but equally significant breakthrough, Delhi Police also cracked a massive ₹1 crore burglary case that occurred in the Madhu Vihar area on the night of March 31.

Five individuals, including a jeweler who melted down the stolen ornaments, have been arrested. The accused—identified as Bablu, Vishal, Pinky, Ravi Soni (the jeweler), and Rampal—were apprehended following a detailed investigation involving phone records and CCTV analysis.

The burglars had targeted the locked flat of a Chartered Accountant in Arya Nagar Apartments, making away with ₹12 lakh in cash and a massive cache of jewelry. Police have already recovered ₹8 lakh in cash and numerous ornaments from the arrested gang, who are known to be repeat offenders targeting locked houses during the day.
