Ranchi Gunfight: Cops Shoot Down Land Dealer's Killer After He Snatches Police Weapon
Ranchi (Jharkhand), April 22, 2026 — A tense gunfight erupted early Wednesday morning in Jharkhand’s capital when a desperate murder suspect attempted to flee from the police. The accused, wanted in connection with the brutal killing of a prominent local land dealer, was arrested after sustaining bullet injuries to both legs during the shootout.
The dramatic encounter unfolded around 7:30 AM in the jurisdiction of the Pandra outpost area, sending shockwaves through the neighborhood.
The Shootout and Arrest
The arrested individual has been identified as 35-year-old Satyam Pathak, a known criminal with a history of multiple offenses.
According to Ranchi Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rakesh Ranjan, law enforcement agencies received a concrete tip-off regarding Pathak’s hideout. As a dedicated police team closed in to apprehend him, the situation rapidly escalated.
“When the police team went to arrest him following a tip-off, he tried to escape after snatching a weapon from security personnel,” SSP Ranjan stated. In the ensuing exchange of gunfire, Pathak was shot in both legs by retaliatory police fire and successfully subdued. An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of the Ranchi Police also sustained injuries during the scuffle and has been admitted to a local medical facility for treatment.
Ranchi (City) SP Paras Rana confirmed that authorities recovered two illegal weapons from Pathak’s possession following his capture.
A Murder Fueled by a Land Dispute
Pathak was one of the prime suspects actively hunted by the police for the brazen murder of 40-year-old Bhargav Singh. Singh, a well-known land dealer and owner of a local construction company, was gunned down in broad daylight near the OTC Ground just a day prior, on Tuesday.
Preliminary investigations by the Ranchi Police reveal that the fatal hit was orchestrated over a heated, ongoing land dispute.
Following Singh’s assassination, police mobilized quickly and managed to arrest the main accused in the conspiracy, identified as Vijay Tete, shortly after the crime occurred. Pathak, however, had managed to slip away and was actively evading capture until Wednesday morning’s tip-off.
Pathak has been admitted to a secure hospital ward under heavy police guard for the treatment of his gunshot wounds. Authorities have indicated that he will face rigorous interrogation regarding the broader syndicate involved in the land mafia killings once he is medically cleared.
