Ahmedabad, April 3, 2026 — As cricket fever grips the nation during the Indian Premier League (IPL), the dark underbelly of illegal sports betting continues to rear its head. Late Wednesday night, Ahmedabad police executed a swift crackdown in the Chandkheda area, arresting two men for allegedly placing live bets during the highly anticipated match between the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and the Delhi Capitals (DC).
Caught During Routine Patrol
The arrests unfolded near the busy Jagatpur Crossroads while local police were conducting routine night patrols to maintain strict vigilance during the high-profile IPL season.
According to police reports, officers noticed a 28-year-old man from the Gota neighborhood behaving suspiciously near a local cafe. He was intensely focused on his mobile phone. Upon approaching the suspect and inspecting his device in the presence of independent witnesses, authorities discovered he was actively logged into a mobile gambling application, placing live financial bets on the ongoing LSG vs DC match.
A Double Arrest
In a striking turn of events, the operation yielded a second suspect at the exact same location. Just moments later, officers apprehended a 37-year-old man, also a resident of Gota.
During the search, police found that the second accused was utilizing a different account on the very same betting application to wager illegal stakes on the cricket match. Both men were immediately taken into police custody.
Evidence Seized as Investigation Deepens
The Chandkheda police have confiscated crucial digital evidence from the scene to build an airtight case. Officers seized two high-end smartphones, each valued at approximately Rs 40,000, which were being used to access the betting platforms. Additionally, authorities secured multiple screenshots of the live betting activity and digital transactions as primary evidence against the duo.
With the IPL season in full swing, local law enforcement is intensifying its crackdown on mobile gambling syndicates. Police have indicated that further digital forensics will be conducted on the seized devices to trace the roots of the betting applications and identify larger, organized gambling networks operating within the city.
