Sonauli, February 9, 2026 – In a gesture underscoring the strong defence cooperation between India and Nepal, the Indian Army has handed over 50 military utility vehicles to the Nepal Army at the India-Nepal border.
The transfer, aimed at bolstering the Nepali Army’s operational capabilities, reflects India’s ongoing commitment to capacity-building initiatives for its neighbor. According to a social media post by the Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADG PI) of the Indian Army, this move highlights the enduring partnership and mutual trust between the two armed forces.
The vehicles will be formally presented to the Nepal Army by the Indian Ambassador to Nepal during a special ceremony in Kathmandu. This handover comes amid a series of collaborative efforts, including joint military exercises, training programs, and equipment support, which have strengthened bilateral ties over the years.
India and Nepal share a long history of defence collaboration, with the Indian Army providing assistance in areas such as disaster response, peacekeeping, and modernization. Such initiatives not only enhance Nepal’s defence readiness but also contribute to regional stability in the Himalayan belt.
Officials from both sides emphasized the symbolic importance of the event, noting it as a continuation of India’s “Neighborhood First” policy. Further details on the specific models and utilization of the vehicles were not immediately disclosed.
This development is particularly relevant for border regions like Siliguri in West Bengal, which serves as a key transit point for Indo-Nepal trade and military exchanges. Local communities often witness the fruits of such cooperation through improved cross-border relations and joint humanitarian efforts.
