Kuala Lumpur, February 8, 2026 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi reaffirmed India’s unwavering position against terrorism during a joint press statement with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, emphasizing a policy of “no double standards and no compromise.”
Addressing the media after comprehensive bilateral talks, Modi stated, “Our message on terrorism is clear: no double standards and no compromise.” He highlighted the commitment of both nations to expand cooperation in maritime security, defence, and counter-terrorism, including intelligence sharing.
The remarks underscore India’s consistent call for a unified global response to terrorism, amid ongoing regional challenges. Modi also noted that India and Malaysia are dedicated to fostering development, peace, and stability in the Indo-Pacific region, with a strengthened focus on ASEAN centrality.
During the talks, the two leaders oversaw the exchange of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), covering areas such as disaster management, audiovisual co-production, anti-corruption efforts, semiconductor development, and security cooperation. This builds on the elevation of bilateral ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in August 2024.
Modi’s two-day official visit, his third to Malaysia, included a ceremonial welcome and interactions with the Indian diaspora. The engagements aim to deepen economic, technological, and cultural linkages between the maritime neighbors.
