Two Unidentified Passengers Killed as Auto Collides with Dumper in Kanpur
Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh), April 25, 2026 — A horrific road accident claimed the lives of two people and left three others critically injured on the National Highway-19 in Kanpur’s Panki police station area early Saturday morning.
The tragic incident occurred around 6:30 AM when a speeding auto-rickshaw traveling in the Naubasta-bound lane crashed violently into a dumper truck parked on the side of the highway near the Patanjali warehouse.
According to the preliminary investigation by the local police, the auto driver was likely speeding and failed to spot the stationary heavy vehicle due to the morning mist or misjudgment of distance. The sheer impact of the rear-end collision was so severe that the front portion of the auto-rickshaw was completely obliterated, trapping the passengers inside the mangled metal frame.
Passing commuters and local residents immediately alerted the authorities. A Dial 112 PRV police team quickly rushed to the spot and initiated a rescue operation.
With the help of locals, the police managed to extract the trapped passengers from the wrecked auto-rickshaw. Unfortunately, two individuals were pronounced dead at the scene. Three other passengers who sustained critical injuries were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where their condition is currently reported to be highly unstable and precarious.
The identities of the two deceased individuals have not yet been established, as no identification documents were recovered from their bodies. The police have taken custody of the remains and sent them for a postmortem examination while actively trying to locate and inform their families.
Authorities have also seized the stationary dumper involved in the accident. A detailed investigation is underway to determine the exact sequence of events and whether the dumper was parked illegally or without proper hazard indicators on the busy national highway.
