Ghaziabad, April 9, 2026 — Habitual traffic offenders in Ghaziabad are about to face severe consequences. In a massive joint crackdown aimed at establishing strict road discipline, the Ghaziabad Traffic Police and the Regional Transport Office (RTO) have decided to completely cancel the driving licenses (DL) of individuals who have repeatedly flouted traffic rules.

The authorities have prepared a targeted list of 80 drivers who have accumulated an astonishing 100 or more traffic challans each.

Vehicles to be Blacklisted

According to officials, the process of canceling the driving licenses of these 80 identified individuals has already been initiated. In addition to losing their driving privileges, the RTO is also preparing to permanently “blacklist” the vehicles registered to these serial offenders, preventing them from being sold or legally driven.

The majority of the challans issued to these drivers involve severe and highly dangerous traffic violations. These include overspeeding, jumping red lights, driving on the wrong side of the road, and consistently driving without essential safety gear like seatbelts and helmets.

Paying the Fine is No Longer a Free Pass

A major takeaway from this new directive is that simply paying the monetary penalty will no longer save habitual offenders from strict legal action.

The transport department has taken a hardline stance, ruling that clearing pending challan dues does not absolve a driver of their dangerous behavior. Officials noted that despite being penalized over a hundred times, these specific drivers have shown absolutely no improvement in their driving habits, thereby questioning their fundamental eligibility to hold a driving license.

Ashok Kumar Srivastava, ARTO (Administration), clearly laid out the department’s reasoning behind the extreme step. “Merely depositing the challan amount is not enough,” Srivastava stated. “If a driver repeatedly violates the rules, he becomes a serious threat to the safety of others on the roads. Therefore, the action of canceling their driving licenses is being strictly implemented.”

By scrutinizing the complete driving history of these violators, the Ghaziabad RTO hopes this severe action will serve as a stark warning to others, significantly reducing road accidents and restoring traffic discipline across the city.
