Fatal Collision on Bahraich Highway: 35-Year-Old Bike Rider Burnt Alive, Tempo Driver Flees
Bahraich (Uttar Pradesh), April 17, 2026 — A horrific road accident on the Nanpara-Lakhimpur Highway in Bahraich district claimed the life of a 35-year-old man on Friday morning. The victim was burnt alive when his motorcycle caught fire following a severe collision with an oncoming tempo.
The fatal crash occurred between the villages of Murawanpurwa and Kudwa.
The Incident
According to initial reports, the deceased, identified as Rajesh Kumar, a resident of Katailapurwa in Somaigaudhi village, was traveling to Pakadiya Diwan village early in the morning. He had left his home at approximately 5:00 AM to deliver a wedding invitation to his relatives.
While navigating the highway, Kumar’s motorcycle collided head-on with a tempo approaching from the opposite direction. The impact of the crash was so massive that both vehicles lost control and careened off the road, plunging down the adjacent slope.
Immediately following the crash, Kumar’s motorcycle erupted into flames. Trapped and severely injured by the impact, Kumar could not escape and was tragically burnt alive on the spot.
Following the collision, the driver of the tempo managed to escape from the vehicle and fled the scene before authorities arrived.
Rescue and Police Action
Passersby traveling along the highway noticed the burning vehicle and immediately alerted the Motipur police station. A police team, accompanied by a fire engine, rushed to the accident site. Firefighters managed to extinguish the flames, and the severely burnt victim was transported to the Community Health Center (CHC) in Motipur. However, attending doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
The police have taken custody of the body, filed a panchnama, and sent it for a post-mortem examination. Authorities have also launched a search operation to apprehend the absconding tempo driver.
Locals Blame Road Conditions
Following the tragic incident, local residents have expressed anger over the state of the highway. According to locals, the Nanpara-Lakhimpur stretch was recently repaired and renovated. However, they allege that the construction work was flawed, leaving the road surface uneven and bumpy in several areas.
Residents claim that these sudden bumps frequently cause vehicles to lose control, leading to a recent surge in severe accidents along this specific route.
