Gyalshing, February 14, 2026 – The People to People Health Foundation (PPHF), Yuksam, in collaboration with HRDP–HDFC Bank Parivartan and 72nd Battalion SSB, conducted a Torrent Training Initiative on Flood Control, Earthquake, and Landslide Management at Government Senior Secondary School, Khechuperi, on February 13.
Panchayat President Shri Sonam Wangdi Bhutia inaugurated the event as Chief Guest, joined by Vice President Smt Sunita Rai, Panchayat Member Smt Bhim Maya Limboo, Principal Shri Rudra Mani Sharma, teachers, students, and locals.
The training focused on disaster response skills, including rescue techniques for landslides, earthquakes, floods, and gorge falls, with hands-on demonstrations on personal safety, first aid, CPR, and safe patient transfer.
Shri Bhutia stressed the need for preparedness in the hazard-prone region, urging regular mock drills and community coordination to reduce risks. He praised the collaborative efforts and called for more such grassroots programmes.
PPHF’s Shri Samar Das and Shri Ankit Kumar, along with SSB Inspector Shri Suresh Chand and his team, facilitated the sessions.
The event saw enthusiastic participation, boosting local emergency response capacity in monsoon-vulnerable West Sikkim.
