Sevoke, February 13, 2026 – A car en route to Gangtok plunged off Bandarey Cliff into the Teesta River at 29th Mile on NH-10 early this morning, killing two passengers instantly and injuring two others.
The group had attended a wedding in Siliguri the previous night and was returning to Gangtok when the vehicle lost control between 4 and 5 am and fell into the gorge. The crash went unnoticed initially due to darkness, but locals spotted the wrecked vehicle in the river later in the morning and immediately alerted authorities.
Rescue teams and police quickly responded, recovering the injured and sending them to hospital.
Police investigating possible causes, including speeding and poor visibility. Identities of the victims are yet to be released.
