Siliguri, February 9, 2026 – A serious road accident occurred on Asian Highway 2 near Singhijhora in Bagdogra today, when a high-speed bus rammed into the rear of a private car, injuring an Indian Army personnel and his wife who were travelling in the vehicle.
The incident took place when the bus, en route from Galgalia to Siliguri, struck the car from behind. The impact completely destroyed the rear portion of the car, leaving it severely damaged. Eyewitnesses at the scene stated that two buses appeared to be racing each other to overtake, during which one bus lost control and hit the oncoming car.
According to local accounts, the bus was travelling at an estimated speed of 70–80 km/h, well above the posted speed limit of 40 km/h on that stretch of the highway.
The injured couple—an serving Army jawan and his wife—were immediately shifted to the nearby Military Hospital in Bagdogra for treatment. Their condition is reported to be stable.
Upon receiving information, officers from Bagdogra Police Station rushed to the spot, provided first aid, and seized both the bus and the damaged car for further investigation.
This accident once again highlights concerns over reckless driving and speeding by commercial vehicles on the busy Siliguri–Panitanki corridor, a vital stretch of Asian Highway 2 that sees heavy traffic of passenger buses, goods carriers, and private vehicles.
Authorities have appealed to all road users, especially commercial drivers, to strictly adhere to speed limits and maintain lane discipline to prevent such incidents.
