Gangtok, February 12, 2026 – A delegation from the Sikkim Football Association (SFA), led by President Mr. Menla Ethenpa, paid a courtesy visit to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on February 4, marking a milestone for football development in the state.

During the meeting, AFC Secretary General Dato Seri Windsor John welcomed the delegation and acknowledged the All India Football Federation’s (AIFF) progress in resolving issues related to the Indian Super League (ISL), confirming a new restart date of February 14, 2026. He expressed optimism about India’s growing potential in football and commended the North Eastern states for their significant contributions to nurturing talent and expanding the sport at the grassroots level.

Mr. Menla Ethenpa, who also serves as Chairman of the AIFF Finance Committee, conveyed greetings from the AIFF President and thanked the AFC for the warm reception. He highlighted the importance of the upcoming AFC League initiative, describing it as a landmark step for Asian football.

The visit concluded a 10-day tour by the SFA executive members to Malaysia and Vietnam, aimed at strengthening ties and exploring opportunities for collaboration in football development.

The engagement underscores Sikkim’s active role in national and continental football governance, with the state continuing to promote the sport through local leagues and youth programmes. The SFA expressed hope that such interactions will pave the way for greater support and opportunities for North Eastern talent on the Asian stage.
