Illegal Arms Seized in Kaliachak: 23-Year-Old Baishnabnagar Resident Arrested Before Sale

Malda, April 17, 2026 — In a major breakthrough against the illegal arms trade in the region, the Malda District Police successfully foiled an attempt to sell illicit weapons on Thursday. A 23-year-old man was arrested, and two illegal firearms were seized during a targeted raid conducted by the Kaliachak Police Station.

The Midnight Raid at Sardaha Math

According to an official statement released by the Malda District Police, the operation was set into motion following a credible intelligence tip-off received on April 16. Sources informed the police that a suspect was actively transporting illegal firearms with the explicit intention of selling them near the Sardaha Math Culvert.

Acting swiftly on the actionable intelligence, a dedicated team from the Kaliachak Police Station set up a perimeter and launched a sudden raid at the specified location.

Suspect Apprehended and Weapons Seized

During the operation, officers successfully intercepted and apprehended the primary suspect. He has been officially identified as 23-year-old Abdul Sattar, a resident of Tinsotobighi, falling under the jurisdiction of the Baishnabnagar police station.

A thorough physical search of the suspect yielded immediate results. Police officials recovered and confiscated two illegal firearms directly from his possession before any transaction could take place.

Legal Action Initiated

Following the recovery of the weapons, Abdul Sattar was formally placed under arrest.

The Kaliachak Police Station has registered a specific case against the accused under relevant sections of the stringent Arms Act. Authorities have confirmed that the accused will be produced before the court to seek extended Police Custody (PC).

Investigators intend to thoroughly interrogate Sattar during his remand to uncover the source of the illicit firearms and identify the intended buyers or potential criminal networks operating within the Malda district.
