New Delhi, February 7, 2026 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on an official visit to Malaysia, as outlined in his departure statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office today.

In the statement, Modi expressed enthusiasm for the trip, emphasizing the deep-rooted historical and cultural connections between India and Malaysia. “I look forward to productive discussions with Malaysian leadership to further enhance our strategic partnership,” he said.

The visit aims to boost cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, defense, and technology. Modi highlighted India’s commitment to the Act East Policy, noting Malaysia’s key role in ASEAN.

This marks Modi’s first bilateral visit to Malaysia in his current term, amid efforts to elevate economic ties post-pandemic. Bilateral trade between the two nations currently stands at over $20 billion, with potential for growth in sectors like palm oil, electronics, and renewable energy.

The PM also mentioned engaging with the Indian diaspora in Malaysia, which numbers around 3 million, to strengthen people-to-people links.

Further details on the itinerary, including meetings with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, are expected during the visit. The statement underscores India’s vision for a prosperous Indo-Pacific region through collaborative efforts.
