PM Modi Embarks on Two-Day Malaysia Visit to Bolster Strategic Ties

New Delhi, February 7, 2026 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi departed for Kuala Lumpur on Saturday for a two-day official visit to Malaysia, aimed at deepening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two nations.

Invited by his counterpart, Anwar Ibrahim, this marks Modi’s third trip to Malaysia and the first since bilateral relations were elevated in August 2024. The visit underscores India’s Act East Policy, with Malaysia playing a pivotal role in ASEAN.

In his departure statement, Modi expressed eagerness for productive discussions: “We will aim to deepen our defence and security ties, enhance our economic and innovation partnership, and expand our collaboration into new domains.” Key focus areas include trade, investment, energy, maritime security, emerging technologies, and education.

The itinerary includes bilateral talks with Anwar Ibrahim and a community event titled “Selamat Datang Modi Ji” in Kuala Lumpur, where Modi will engage with the nearly three million-strong Indian diaspora, whom he described as a “living bridge” between the countries.

Briefing the media, External Affairs Ministry Secretary (East) P Kumaran highlighted the visit’s significance in reviewing ties and injecting fresh momentum.

This engagement is expected to foster greater cooperation amid shared interests in the Indo-Pacific region.
