Major Fire Breaks Out at Naxalbari Police Station; Seized Vehicles Gutted

Naxalbari, February 24, 2026 — A sudden fire broke out in the backyard of the Naxalbari Police Station compound today at around 11:00 AM, destroying seized vehicles and triggering momentary panic in the adjoining areas.

According to initial reports, the blaze originated in the rear section of the police compound, an area specifically used to park and store vehicles seized during various law enforcement operations.

Police personnel on duty immediately noticed thick plumes of smoke billowing from the scrapyard and swiftly alerted Naxalbari Fire Station. Reacting promptly to the emergency, the fire brigade arrived at the scene within minutes. The firefighters launched an immediate operation and successfully brought the raging flames under control, preventing the fire from spreading to the main police station building and nearby structures.

The intensity of the smoke caused panic at the Naxalbari Rural Hospital, which is situated directly adjacent to the police station. Patients, attendants, and medical staff reportedly panicked upon seeing the thick black smoke enveloping the area. However, a major tragedy was averted due to the rapid response of the fire fighters, and the hospital occupants breathed a sigh of relief once the situation was secured.

Fortunately, no human casualties or injuries have been reported in the incident. However, the fire consumed several vehicles parked in the compound. The exact cause of the fire and the total number of seized vehicles damaged are not yet known.
