Looking for an Internship? Govt Launches New Biodiversity Program for College Students

The Govt is Investing Rs 1 Crore to Turn College Students into ‘Biodiversity Ambassadors’

New Delhi, March 25, 2026 — In a major boost for college students looking to build a career in the environmental sector, the National Biodiversity Authority (NBA) has officially launched a new short-term internship programme focused on Biodiversity Conservation and Natural Resources Management.

Announced by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, the initiative aims to offer crucial hands-on, project-based learning to the youth.

The Short-Term Internship Initiative

Designed specifically for students currently pursuing their graduation or post-graduation, this newly launched short-term internship will run for a duration of up to three months.

According to the official release, the primary goal of the programme is to actively engage young minds with NBA projects. By doing so, the government hopes to build capacity, deepen environmental awareness, and significantly enhance future employment opportunities for young professionals in the fast-growing green sector. Ultimately, the NBA aims to develop these participating students into passionate “biodiversity ambassadors.”

The Year-Long BSIP Programme

Alongside the new short-term opportunity, the NBA also highlighted the ongoing success of its regular Biodiversity Samrakshan Internship Programme (BSIP).

Started in active partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Ministry of Environment, the BSIP is a rigorous one-year internship that can be extended for an additional two years. Selected through a highly competitive all-India process, these interns are deployed across the country to assist State Biodiversity Boards (SBBs) and Union Territory Biodiversity Councils (UTBCs).

The BSIP is currently in its sixth cycle, with 24 selected interns already placed across various states and Union Territories. During their tenure, these young professionals conduct field studies, organize awareness programmes, and actively participate in high-level conservation meetings.

A Rs. 1 Crore Investment in Youth

The government is taking this capacity-building exercise very seriously. The National Biodiversity Authority currently invests approximately ₹1 Crore in supporting these internship initiatives.

By funding these hands-on field engagements, the NBA is actively contributing to strong nation-building and ensuring that India has a dedicated, highly trained cadre of young professionals ready to tackle future ecological challenges.
