Police Hunt Red Honda Brio After Brutal Hit-and-Run Leaves 1 Dead, 2 Critical in South East Delhi
New Delhi, April 3, 2026 — What was meant to be a joyous family outing has turned into an unimaginable nightmare for a local Delhi family. On Wednesday, 14-year-old Mohammad Ahmad tragically succumbed to severe brain injuries, nine days after he, his mother, and his teenage cousin were brutally struck by a speeding car in a horrific hit-and-run incident in South East Delhi’s Hazrat Nizamuddin area.
A Red Light and a Speeding Car
The devastating crash occurred late on the night of March 23. Ahmad, a resident of the Nizamuddin Basti, was returning home alongside his mother, Khatija, and his 16-year-old cousin, Zoya, after celebrating at an Eid fair near the Red Fort.
According to police reports, the trio had just stepped out of an autorickshaw near a petrol pump in Nizamuddin East at approximately 11:20 PM. Believing the road was safe to cross because the traffic signal was red, the family began walking. Seconds later, a speeding car violently rammed into them before fleeing the scene.
“Since the signal was red at the traffic intersection, I told them to cross the road. The car hit them right after I left in the auto,” stated Khatija’s sister, who had just dropped them off.
“What Purpose Do I Have for Being Alive?”
The impact of the crash left all three family members with devastating injuries. Despite fighting for his life for over a week, 14-year-old Ahmad died on Wednesday.
His mother, Khatija, and his cousin, Zoya, remain in critical condition and are still undergoing intensive medical treatment. The emotional toll on the surviving family has been absolute. “My son is gone. Now what purpose do I have for being alive?” cried Sajid, the grieving father of the deceased boy.
Similarly, Zoya’s father expressed deep despair over the situation, stating, “My daughter has multiple fractures and I am paralysed. I don’t know what to do.”
The Hunt for the Red Honda Brio
A formal case has been registered at the Hazrat Nizamuddin police station, but the investigation initially hit roadblocks due to non-functional CCTV cameras and poor street lighting at the crash site.
However, investigators have made a crucial breakthrough. A police officer confirmed that based on available inputs, they have narrowed the suspect vehicle down to a red Honda Brio that was traveling from the Mathura Road side towards New Friends Colony. During the violent impact, one of the victims’ mobile phones flew onto the bonnet of the fleeing car and was later recovered by a security guard in Kalindi Kunj.
Authorities are now aggressively enhancing CCTV footage from nearby stretches and underpasses to identify the exact registration number. As the grieving family prepares to bury a 14-year-old boy, the Delhi police are closing the net on the driver responsible for tearing their lives apart.
