Marital Dispute Takes Dark Turn in UP: Husband Kidnaps 16-Year-Old Sister-in-Law, Demands Wife Back
Barabanki, April 6, 2026 — In a bizarre and shocking incident stemming from a domestic dispute, a man in Uttar Pradesh’s Barabanki district allegedly kidnapped his 16-year-old sister-in-law to pressure his estranged wife into returning to him.
The incident took place under the jurisdiction of the Loni Katra police station. According to reports, the accused, identified as Subhash Verma, had been married to a woman from the nearby Kothi area for three years. However, their marriage was marred by frequent quarrels and domestic discord.
“Send My Wife, Take Your Daughter”
Fed up with the daily disputes, Subhash’s wife left their marital home in February 2026 and returned to her maternal house. Despite Subhash’s repeated attempts over the past month to convince her to come back, she firmly refused.
Desperate and angered by her refusal, Subhash hatched a drastic plan. He lured his 16-year-old minor sister-in-law out under false pretenses and abducted her, taking her to his own house. He then contacted his in-laws with an unusual and illegal ultimatum: “Send my wife back, and only then will I return your daughter.”
Mother-in-Law Files FIR, Accused Jailed
Initially, the kidnapped girl’s mother tried to reason with her son-in-law, attempting to defuse the situation peacefully. When Subhash refused to back down from his bizarre demand, the mother-in-law approached the Kothi police station and filed a formal kidnapping FIR against him.
Acting swiftly on the complaint, the Barabanki police launched an operation and successfully rescued the 16-year-old girl from Subhash’s captivity four days after the abduction. She was presented before the court and safely handed back over to her parents.
Meanwhile, Subhash Verma’s drastic plan backfired completely. He was arrested by the police and sent to jail. As a result of his actions, the accused lost any chance of a reconciliation with his wife and is now facing serious criminal charges behind bars.
