Bounty of Rs 25,000 Ends Here: Notorious Robber Arrested After Firing at Unnao Cops
Unnao, April 6, 2026 — An intense late-night encounter between the local police and a heavily wanted criminal in Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao district culminated in the arrest of a notorious robber carrying a bounty of Rs 25,000.
The shootout occurred under the jurisdiction of the Purwa police station on Monday night between 10:30 PM and 11:00 PM. The primary accused, identified as Irfan, a resident of the Jajmau area in neighboring Kanpur, sustained a bullet injury to his left leg during the exchange of fire.
How the Encounter Unfolded
According to local authorities, Irfan had been actively evading arrest following multiple charges under the Gangster Act. Driven underground by the Rs 25,000 bounty placed on his head, his run finally ended during a routine police vehicular checkpoint operation set up near Chandigarhi on the Purwa-Patan road.
As Irfan approached the checkpoint on a motorcycle with an accomplice, he panicked upon spotting the police presence. When officers signaled the pair to stop, Irfan aggressively opened fire on the police team in a desperate bid to escape. The police immediately retaliated in self-defense, leading to Irfan taking a bullet to the leg.
His accomplice, identified as Prem Singh, who was riding pillion, attempted to flee the scene on foot but was quickly chased down and apprehended by the officers.
A Long Criminal History
Following the shootout, the police recovered an illegal firearm (tamancha) and live cartridges from Irfan’s possession. The injured criminal was immediately rushed to a local hospital for medical treatment.
Circle Officer (CO) Arvind Chaurasia confirmed the arrests and highlighted the severity of Irfan’s criminal background. According to the CO, Irfan is a hardened criminal with a staggering 21 cases of robbery, theft, and other major offenses registered against him across multiple police stations in Unnao, Kanpur, and surrounding districts.
Most recently, on February 25, 2026, Irfan was involved in a brazen robbery in the Purwa area, where he snatched a bag full of jewelry from a local woman named Beenu. Additionally, police confirmed that the motorcycle the two men were riding during Monday’s encounter was completely stolen from Kanpur.
Both Irfan and Prem Singh are currently in police custody and are undergoing intense interrogation. An additional case of attempted murder and assault on a police team has now been registered against them following the shootout.
