PM Modi at Kawakhali Rally: Promises Sports University for North Bengal, Crackdown on ‘Tukde Tukde Gang’
Siliguri, April 12, 2026 — Stepping up his aggressive campaign for the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack against the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) government during a massive public rally at Siliguri’s Kawakhali ground on Sunday.
Addressing a massive crowd that had gathered despite the scorching heat, PM Modi heavily criticized the incumbent state government on multiple fronts, including regional discrimination, appeasement politics, women’s safety, and national security regarding the crucial Siliguri corridor.
“Anti-North Bengal, Anti-Women”
Labeling the TMC as an “anti-North Bengal, anti-tribal, anti-tea garden, anti-women, and anti-youth party,” the Prime Minister asserted that the state government has delivered only ruin during its 15-year tenure.
He sharply criticized the TMC for its budgetary allocations, accusing it of blatant discrimination against the northern districts. “The example of discrimination towards North Bengal is seen in the budget of the TMC Government,” PM Modi stated. “The ruthless government has allocated nearly Rs 6,000 crore in the budget for madrasas. But for the development of such a large area in North Bengal, the Bengal government does not provide adequate budget. TMC is only engaged in appeasing its special vote-bank.”
He further added that while North Bengal suffered heavily during recent heavy rains, the “ruthless TMC government was celebrating in Kolkata.”
Security and The ‘Tukde-Tukde Gang’
Shifting focus to national security, the Prime Minister highlighted the strategic importance of the Siliguri Corridor—often referred to as the ‘Chicken’s Neck’—which connects mainland India to its northeastern states.
“The Siliguri Corridor is not just a word; it is the arm of Mother India,” PM Modi declared. He accused the TMC of actively rewarding the “Tukde Tukde Gang” who had previously threatened to sever the corridor, by giving them political patronage and “sending them to Parliament” merely for the sake of vote-bank politics.
“I have given a guarantee to free Bengal from infiltration and corruption and to restore trust in the system and the rule of law,” he assured the crowd, adding that every mafia and criminal connected to the TMC will be sent to jail permanently under a BJP government.
Focus on Tea Gardens and Sports
Appealing directly to the massive tea garden worker population in North Bengal, PM Modi alleged that the TMC government was systematically destroying the plantations. He contrasted this with the neighboring state of Assam, claiming the BJP government there has significantly improved education, health, and employment facilities for workers’ children, along with providing land leases.
Promising similar development, he stated, “Bengal BJP has also taken many resolutions here for the families of plantation workers. Land leases, permanent houses, water from taps, electricity, and employment opportunities will have to be given to workers’ families.”
Recognizing the immense sporting talent in the region, the Prime Minister made a major announcement. Highlighting the achievements of local cricket star Richa Ghosh and table tennis icon Mantu Ghosh, he said, “Daughters here are extremely talented… That’s why the BJP in Bengal has announced plans to establish a Sports University in North Bengal.”
Women’s Safety and The End of ‘Jungle Raj’
Focusing heavily on women’s safety, PM Modi promised that the BJP would dramatically increase the recruitment of women in the Bengal Police and set up dedicated women police stations and help desks in every single block across the state.
Addressing the youth specifically, he urged them to evaluate the future of Bengal, noting that they were merely children when the TMC first came to power. “The TMC is unable to provide an account of its 15 years in office because, having committed only nefarious acts rather than actual work, with what face could it possibly answer to you?”
Expressing deep gratitude for the overwhelming turnout at his 15-kilometer roadshow the previous evening, which started at Bagdogra, the Prime Minister concluded with a strong assertion: “Bengal is now determined for change. This time, it is certain that the TMC will go. This rally in Siliguri has decided the farewell of TMC’s so-called jungle raj.”
