Stage Set for Sunday’s Mega Kawakhali Rally
The political momentum in the city is expected to peak tomorrow, April 12, as the Prime Minister is scheduled to address a massive public meeting at the Kawakhali Ground in Siliguri.
The venue holds immense strategic importance for the Bharatiya Janata Party, which considers the ground highly favorable for its electoral fortunes in North Bengal. According to local party leaders and historical data, events held at Kawakhali have consistently yielded positive outcomes for the party:
PM Modi’s rallies at this specific venue during the 2019 and 2024 Lok Sabha elections were followed by record victories for BJP candidates Raju Bista in Darjeeling and Jayanta Kumar Roy in Jalpaiguri.
The venue was equally significant during the 2021 Assembly elections, where political dynamics following the Prime Minister’s meeting led to BJP leader Shankar Ghosh’s victory in Siliguri.
With preparations at the Kawakhali Ground in full swing, senior BJP leaders have camped in the city to oversee the arrangements. Consequently, the Siliguri Metropolitan Police have implemented stringent security measures. Surveillance has been vastly intensified, and traffic arrangements have been heavily modified from Naukaghat to Bagdogra to ensure the smooth conduct of Sunday’s high-stakes program.
“Shop of TMC’s Lies and Loot is About to Shut Down”
Before arriving in Siliguri, PM Modi addressed three massive public gatherings across West Bengal today, setting an aggressive tone for the Assembly elections.
Speaking to a massive crowd in South Dinajpur, he framed the upcoming polls as a fight for safety. “This is a battle to defeat fear, this is a battle to move Bengal forward on trust. Today I have come to assure you that the reign of TMC’s fear is now coming to an end… the shop of TMC’s lies and loot is now about to shut down,” the Prime Minister stated.
At his rally in Murshidabad, PM Modi accused the ruling party of mirroring the failures of previous regimes. “With immense hope and enthusiasm—swayed by the rhetoric of ‘Ma Mati Manush’—the public gave the TMC a chance; yet, the moment they assumed power, the TMC became a carbon copy of the Left,” he alleged, adding that the BJP’s pledge is a clarion call to end the state’s “Syndicate Raj.”
Meanwhile, battling scorching heat to address supporters in Purba Bardhaman, PM Modi announced a major administrative promise. Taking direct aim at the TMC leadership over alleged systemic loot, he declared that if the BJP comes to power, the new government will release a comprehensive “White Paper” detailing all instances of corruption that have occurred during the last 15 years of the TMC regime.
