Kathmandu – Renowned singer and actor Prashant Tamang, best known for winning the third season of Indian Idol in 2007, has reportedly passed away due to a heart attack.
According to a report published by Nepali news portal Ratopati, Tamang’s death occurred on Sunday. Producer Rajesh Kaushal confirmed the news to Ratopati, citing information from Tamang’s wife.
An earlier article on the same portal noted that several celebrities, including singer Pramod Kharel, had posted on social media expressing grief over the news. Kharel reportedly wrote on Facebook: “What unpleasant and unbelievable news I had to hear. Dear Prashant Tamang is no longer with us. Oh! May he rest in paradise.” The portal highlighted that multiple artists shared condolences online, though it initially noted no official confirmation at that time.
Prashant Tamang, born in Darjeeling, rose to fame as a singer from the Nepali-speaking Gorkha community in India. His Indian Idol victory was a landmark moment, followed by music albums and roles in Nepali films.
