Nalanda University Ready for President Murmu’s First Official Visit
Rajgir, March 30, 2026 — The historic town of Rajgir is buzzing with anticipation as the campus of Nalanda University stands ready to host its second-ever convocation ceremony today.
President Droupadi Murmu has arrived in Bihar to attend the prestigious event as the Chief Guest. Serving in her capacity as the Visitor of the University, this momentous occasion marks her inaugural visit to the esteemed institution since assuming the office of the President of India.
A Global Academic Gathering
According to university officials, the final preparations have been completed to welcome a truly international cohort of students. During the ceremony, President Murmu will deliver the highly anticipated convocation address and formally confer degrees upon 617 graduating students hailing from 31 different nations, showcasing Nalanda University’s growing footprint as a global center of learning and cultural exchange.
In addition to conferring degrees, the President will also award gold medals to meritorious students who have demonstrated exceptional academic excellence during their tenure at the university.
Alumni Express Immense Pride
Ahead of the grand ceremony, several alumni who are set to receive gold medals shared their excitement and gratitude for the transformative education they received at the university.
Saurabh Kumar Sinha, a 2022-24 MBA graduate in Sustainable Development and Management who is currently working as a geoscientist with ONGC, highlighted the practical impact of his education. “I am presently working on India’s first geothermal well drilling project. My journey at Nalanda has been instrumental in shaping my professional path,” Sinha stated.
For others, receiving an award from the President makes the homecoming even more special. Snigdha, a 2020-22 graduate from the School of Ecology and Environment Studies who is now pursuing her PhD in environmental toxicology in Japan, expressed her joy, saying, “Being honoured by the President will be a unique achievement, and it feels wonderful to return to my alma mater.”
Echoing similar sentiments, Seerat, a graduate of the School of Management Studies (2020-22) from Kashmir, noted, “Being a part of Nalanda is a matter of immense pride for me. Returning here for the convocation is a special moment.”
