5,000 Absent Students Passed? YSRCP Drops a Bombshell on the State Education Ministry
Tadepalli, March 27, 2026 — A massive political and educational storm is brewing in Andhra Pradesh. The Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) Student Wing has blown the whistle on an alleged ₹5 crore extortion and bribery racket involving the B.Ed practical examinations at Acharya Nagarjuna University (ANU).
In a fiery press conference held at the YSRCP central office, Student Wing Working President A. Ravichandra demanded a sweeping investigation, claiming that the state’s education system has been hijacked by a highly organized, commercialized extortion ring.
The ₹12,000 “Pass Guarantee”
According to the explosive allegations, the malpractice is not an isolated incident but a coordinated effort spanning more than 60 colleges affiliated with ANU.
Ravichandra stated that students were systematically coerced into paying a bribe of at least ₹12,000 each just to clear their B.Ed practical exams. This racket allegedly generated illicit collections of nearly ₹15 lakh per college.
The most shocking claim involves mass absenteeism. Out of the 7,000 students expected to appear for the practical exams, approximately 5,000 students—many hailing from other states—were completely absent. Despite never showing up, these students were allegedly marked as “passed” in exchange for the cash payouts.
The student leader pointed a direct finger at ANU’s B.Ed exam coordinator, Subba Rao, accusing him of spearheading this exploitative network.
A History of Inaction and Political Fallout
The controversy has quickly escalated into a direct attack on the ruling coalition government. Ravichandra fiercely questioned whether Education Minister Nara Lokesh has deliberately turned a blind eye to the blatant commercialization of university exams.
Adding fuel to the fire, the YSRCP highlighted that this isn’t the first time ANU has faced such allegations. Similar complaints of “cash-for-marks” surfaced last year. Despite forming a three-member investigative committee under the then-in-charge Vice Chancellor Gangadhar Rao, the administration took no tangible action, allowing the perpetrators to scale up their operations this year.
Broader Accusations of Misgovernance
The press conference also featured YSRCP state spokesperson and MLA Tatiparthi Chandrasekhar, who broadened the attack on the Chandrababu Naidu-led administration.
Chandrasekhar accused the current government of operating on fear and relying on “fabricated stories” from partisan media rather than official intelligence. He cited the recent harassment and punitive transfers of senior IAS and IPS officers, such as Neelakantha Reddy, who allegedly faced disciplinary action over a fake media report.
As the pressure mounts, the YSRCP is demanding immediate criminal proceedings against the university officials involved in the ₹5 crore exam scam.
